To Our Extendicare Community,

There has been good news to start the year with vaccines being administered to vulnerable populations across Canada. Extendicare continues to work with our public health partners across the country to administer first and second doses to help protect our communities.

Our staff have fought day-in and day-out against this devastating virus for a year. While it has been difficult, the vaccine gives hope that we are nearing a return to better times.

EXTENDICARE KAPUSKASING – MEDIA UPDATE

As of 11:00am today, we have no new cases to report among our residents. In total, we continue to have 3 residents with active cases of COVID-19 in our home, one of whom remains in hospital. All residents continue to isolate in their rooms, where they are being provided with meals and individual care and support.

Unfortunately, one of our residents with a resolved COVID case passed away yesterday afternoon. We have been in touch with their family and have offered our heartfelt condolences on behalf of everyone in our home who knew and provided care for them.

We have now received the majority of results from yesterday’s staff testing clinic, and all have come back negative. We continue to have a total of 9 active cases among our staff, all of whom are in self-isolation and being followed by Public Health. All staff remain cohorted to a single area in the home to help prevent spread between home areas.

We have received the results from yesterday’s swabbing of negative residents as well as from our weekly testing of all staff. All results have come back negative. As of 11:00 am today, we have no new resident or staff cases to report.

We continue to have 3 residents with active cases of COVID-19 in our home, one of whom is in hospital. All residents continue to isolate in their rooms, where they are being provided with meals and individual care and support.

We continue to have 9 active cases among our staff, all of whom are in self-isolation until they are cleared to return to work by public health. All staff in the home remain cohorted to a single area to help prevent the potential for spread between home areas.

Working with public health, an additional 4 residents have been declared resolved since our update yesterday, meaning they tested positive more than 14 days ago and are no longer infectious.

In total, we now have 3 residents with active cases of COVID-19 in our home, one of whom is in hospital. All residents continue to isolate in their rooms, where they are being provided with meals and individual care and support.

Public health has declared an additional 5 staff cases now resolved. We now have 9 active cases among our staff, all of whom are in self-isolation until they are cleared to return to work by public health. All staff in the home remain cohorted to a single area to help prevent spread between home areas.

As of 11:00am today, as a result of our ongoing resident testing, we have one new case to report among our residents.

However, working with public health, an additional 3 residents have been declared resolved since our update yesterday, meaning they tested positive more than 14 days ago and are no longer infectious.

In total, we have 11 residents with active cases of COVID-19 in our home, with one resident in hospital. All residents continue to isolate in their rooms, where they are being provided with meals and individual care and support.

All results received from our weekly staff testing clinic on Monday have been negative, and we continue to have no new cases to report among our care team. In total, we have 14 active cases among our staff, all of whom are in self-isolation until they are cleared to return to work by public health. All staff remain cohorted to a single area in the home to help prevent spread between home areas.

EXTENDICARE KAPUSKASING – MEDIA UPDATE

As of 11:00am on Wednesday February 10, we have no new cases to report among our residents or care team.

We continue to have 14 active cases among our staff, all of whom are in self-isolation, and an additional 5 staff cases that have now been resolved.

Working with public health, an additional two residents’ cases were declared resolved today, meaning they tested positive more than 14 days ago and are no longer infectious. We now have a total of 23 resolved residents.

We are saddened to confirm two of our residents have passed away yesterday, with COVID-19 being listed by Public Health as a contributing factor in their passing. Our team has shared our heartfelt condolences with their families, on behalf of everyone in our home who knew them and who provided direct care for them.

In total, we now have 13 residents with active cases of COVID-19 in our home. All residents continue to isolate in their rooms, where they are being provided with meals and individual care and support.

In total, we now have 15 residents with active cases of COVID-19 in our home. All residents continue to isolate in their rooms, where they are being provided with meals and individual care and support.

As of 11:00am on Saturday, February 6, we have no new cases to report among residents and staff. We continue to have 15 active cases among our staff, all of whom are in self-isolation, and 24 active cases among residents.

Working with public health, we resolved 5 more residents this morning, meaning they tested positive more than 14 days ago and are no longer infectious.

We are deeply saddened to report that two residents who were COVID-19 positive passed away since our update yesterday. We have been in touch with both families to share our sincere condolences on behalf of everyone in the home who knew and provided care for them.

We have received the results from our resident testing clinic conducted yesterday. As of 11:00 am on Monday, February 1, Extendicare Kapuskasing has three new resident cases to report. Working with the Porcupine Health Unit, four residents’ cases were declared resolved this morning, meaning they tested positive more than 10 days ago and are no longer infectious. There are now 32 active cases among residents. We continue to have 14 active cases among our care team. All affected staff are isolating at home until cleared by public health to return to work.

Through our weekly staff testing clinic, we have received four additional positive results for team members, one of which Porcupine Health Unit has confirmed has been resolved.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be extremely challenging for long-term care communities. As levels of community spread remain high in many regions across Ontario, long-term care homes must continue to combat increased risk of exposure.

Extendicare Kapuskasing is working closely with the Porcupine Health Unit health to ensure our infection control practices are informed by the latest available evidence. We are strictly adhering to all of the provincial and local public health directives and will continue to test rigorously so that we can combat the virus effectively and clear it from our home as soon as possible.
