EXTENDICARE KAPUSKASING – MEDIA UPDATE
As of 11:00am today, we have no new cases to report among our residents. In total, we continue to have 3 residents with active cases of COVID-19 in our home, one of whom remains in hospital. All residents continue to isolate in their rooms, where they are being provided with meals and individual care and support.
Unfortunately, one of our residents with a resolved COVID case passed away yesterday afternoon. We have been in touch with their family and have offered our heartfelt condolences on behalf of everyone in our home who knew and provided care for them.
We have now received the majority of results from yesterday’s staff testing clinic, and all have come back negative. We continue to have a total of 9 active cases among our staff, all of whom are in self-isolation and being followed by Public Health. All staff remain cohorted to a single area in the home to help prevent spread between home areas.
ONGOING OUTBREAK DEFENSE
The home continues to meet daily with the Porcupine Health Unit, Sensenbrenner Hospital, Ontario Health, our Local Health Integration Network team and the Ministry of Long-Term Care. All parties are working together to respond to the outbreak and ensure enhanced levels of care.
The team from Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) remains onsite today, continuing to focus on enhanced infection control and prevention practices, including education and training of staff and active audits on appropriate environmental cleaning, Personal Protective Equipment and hand hygiene practices on all shifts.
We continue to follow public health direction and operate under an abundance of caution to limit the spread of the virus.
STAFF SUPPORT
We are working with Sensenbrenner Hospital to ensure our team members have the mental health supports they need during this difficult time, through counseling and services provided by both Extendicare and the hospital. Working together, we will continue to support our staff, keep our community informed, and do all we can to protect those in our care.
