EXTENDICARE KAPUSKASING – MEDIA UPDATE

As of 11:00am on Wednesday February 10, we have no new cases to report among our residents or care team.

We continue to have 14 active cases among our staff, all of whom are in self-isolation, and an additional 5 staff cases that have now been resolved.

Working with public health, an additional two residents’ cases were declared resolved today, meaning they tested positive more than 14 days ago and are no longer infectious. We now have a total of 23 resolved residents.

We are saddened to confirm two of our residents have passed away yesterday, with COVID-19 being listed by Public Health as a contributing factor in their passing. Our team has shared our heartfelt condolences with their families, on behalf of everyone in our home who knew them and who provided direct care for them.

In total, we now have 13 residents with active cases of COVID-19 in our home. All residents continue to isolate in their rooms, where they are being provided with meals and individual care and support.

ONGOING OUTBREAK DEFENSE

The home continues to meet daily with the Porcupine Health Unit, Sensenbrenner Hospital, Ontario Health, our Local Health Integration Network team and the Ministry of Long-Term Care. All parties are working together to respond to the outbreak and ensure enhanced levels of care.

All infection prevention and control (IPAC) practices advised by public health continue to be closely followed and regularly audited by both our team and our health partners on site.

We will continue to follow public health direction and operate under an abundance of caution to limit the spread of the virus, recognizing how challenging this remains for our residents, families and our staff.
